Activities of the Department of Microeconomics involve the teaching, research and development activities. The department provides courses in economics theory (macroeconomics, microeconomics, economic history and history of economic though). Students can take compulsory and also elective courses in these disciplines. Compulsory courses provide a general overview relevant to the university level, elective courses then focus on detailed analysis of concrete issues (e.g. leasure economics, ethics, labour economics etc.).

On 8 June 2010 professor Vladimir Novak from the Department of Microeconomics received the prestigious university award – the Medal of Alois Rašín. Rector so praised the successful career of prof. Novak at our university. Summer semester of the academic year 2009 – 2010 was a semester with the number 100 in the career of prof. Novak at the University of Economics, Prague. Congratulations. On Tuesday 8 December 2009 the world’s leading economist, a professor of American Columbia University Jeffrey D. Sachs lectured on the topic “Ways out of the current world recession” for students of the course Economics. The Faculty of Business Administration graduates (2004) rated the quality of our courses for the Financial Times in frame of journals´ survey of European education. The results can be found  here.
